Identity
We are a Christian church. As a community of followers of Jesus Christ, we seek to encourage and help people everywhere to develop a vital relationship with him and become healthier, holier, whole human beings. While everyone is welcome at our church, our ministry is especially geared toward those who identify with the English-speaking Asian American community.
Purpose
At Evergreen, our purpose is to share, in word and deed, God’s message of love and hope as it is contained in the Bible. Our church’s motto is “Come-Know & Grow-Go.” We seek to invite anyone seeking a relationship with God to “come” and meet Jesus Christ through our fellowship and ministries. We are also dedicated to being a church where his followers, whatever their stage of faith development, can “know” through prayer and “grow” toward spiritual maturity. And, we are committed to “go” and do the work of Christ in the world, both locally and globally.
History
Evergreen Baptist Church of San Gabriel Valley is an offshoot of Evergreen Baptist Church of Los Angeles. This latter church was founded in 1925 as a mission work in Boyle Heights when the area was predominantly Japanese. However, by the late 1980s, many in the congregation had moved, and we had outgrown our facilities. In 1988, the church relocated to Rosemead, where it flourished, reaching a size of 1,200 worshippers on Sunday. In order to continue to meet the needs of the members and still reach out to the community, a decision was made to go from one large church to two smaller ones. Evergreen Baptist Church of Los Angeles remained at the Rosemead site, and in 1997, a portion of the congregation left to begin a new work.
This new work, Evergreen Baptist Church of San Gabriel Valley, is now ten years old. Our new meeting place on Sundays is on 323 Workman Mill RD, La Puente, where we hold two worship services with 700-800 in attendance.
