Local Outreach: “Loving Our Neighbors” by JK Lee

Pastor Cory believes the Lord will use our church to Love God, Love Others, and Make a Difference. As we live out the commandment, He gives us a heart of compassion for our community. As a result, we begin to do acts of kindness to help others know the hope of the gospel.

In establishing a life-changing relationship with the community Evergreen SGV, in 2008, has adopted Don Julian Elementary School and established the Don Julian Mobilization Team.

Our ministry oversight includes: 1) Backpack Expedition - collection of school supplies 2) Don Julian Staff luncheons 3) THINK Together - after school tutoring 4) Reading Program

In the past we have been able to provide the school with over 1125 backpacks with school supplies, over 400 polo shirts and over 645 uniform pants. As a part of our involvement, our church family has been praying for the school. The hard work and efforts of students, parents, teachers and other supporters paid off as the school’s test scores have risen.

We hope you will pray about serving through the Reading Program and the after school volunteer tutoring program. This includes both traditional tutoring in reading and selected school subjects as well as assisting with recreational after school programs. Please watch our bulletin and church website for information on the next THINK Together orientation class.  After assessing the changing needs of the students and consulting with the administration we will no longer be continuing the School Uniform polo shirts and pants collection.

We want to thank our Evergreen SGV family for their love, prayer and generous donations. It is a blessing to see our church family living out Colossians 3:23 and 24 “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”

Please continue to pray for:

1) the Lord to bless our relationships with the school and provide opportunities to share the Gospel.

2) a generous heart in donating backpacks and school supplies for the students of Don Julian.

3) a closer relationship with Don Julian faculty, staff and principal.

4) God to open new doors of opportunities to have a deeper impact of the love of Christ to the families of the students of Don Julian.
