“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Romans 12:9-13

Over the past few years, our Church family has nurtured a relationship with the staff and students of Don Julian Elementary School. Through God’s goodness, backpacks, teacher appreciation luncheons, nutritious food items though the Evergreen Community Pantry, and a character development program through “ABC of Character” have been provided to the school community. Last year, we “made it personal” by hosting 150 Don Julian guests for our first Thanksgiving Celebration Luncheon.

We again are hosting Don Julian students and their families for a traditional Thanksgiving meal on Saturday, November 23. Since our first luncheon, word has spread among the Don Julian families as to how blessed were those who attended last year’s luncheon. As a result, Don Julian families have overwhelmingly responded to this year’s invitation, completely filling their guest list two weeks before the cut-off date!

Here’s a preview of God’s faithfulness in answering our prayers for attendees, food donations, and volunteers:

  • 71 families or 362 guests from Don Julian are expected. God has moved 22 Evergreen family units to share a traditional turkey meal and interact with our guests as Conversation Friends.
  • More than 100 Evergreen volunteers have signed up to help during the event in the areas of hospitality, food preparation, food service, decorations, set-up and clean-up.
  • Through you generous contributions, we will serve 40 turkeys, 40 cans of cranberry sauce, and 60 pumpkin pies. Mash potatoes, vegetables, stuffing, gravy, and rolls also will be served.

Although we have completed our recruitment for volunteers and food donations at church, there are still opportunities to serve at this event. Home-baked turkeys are still being accepted. Please contact Ingrid Kuo at ingridkuo@gmail.com.

Praise God for this great blessing and a chance again to make it personal and to show our love to our Don Julian families! May all glory be His as we give thanks and serve Him by serving our neighbors at Don Julian! Finally, we ask that you please be in prayer for our volunteers in preparing their servant’s hearts with compassion and that the hearts of our Don Julian guests be softened to be receptive to the gospel.
