The Union Rescue Mission is one of the largest providers for continuous services in the country. It provides an average of 3000 meals each day for people who for the most part would have no meal. For children we provide infant formulae, baby food, and sack lunches for children to take to school. Each night we house an average of 924 men, women children, and 62 families. We provide clothing for the homeless along with restrooms, hot showers, personal hygiene items and diapers for mothers with children. But the most important thing that we provide is hope through Jesus Christ.
Evergreen is involved at the Union Rescue Mission. I would like to thank the young men and women of Converge who come to the Mission twice a month to help feed the needy. If it were not for people like these the 3000 meals could not be provided. This year, besides my teaching of the bible and of the Christian twelve-step program, I am taking on a new task, and that is to help men who have finished the program transition out of the Mission. The Mission will let them stay for up to one year while they go to school or look for a Job. They must work at the Mission twenty hours a week and be actively engaged in looking for work or attending school. During this time many lose their focus on God and become very discouraged. I will be meeting with them one-on-one to teach them how to trust the Lord during difficult times.
