Outreach Awareness

‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Matthew 22:37-39)

Vision: to ignite a movement in our church to love God and to love others.
Purpose: to encourage and educate people to grow further in their faith by developing a stronger burden to bring Christ to their community, nation and overseas.
Objectives:
• To minister heart transformation through a deeper love for Jesus Christ as the foundation and basis for all missions and ministry.
• To educate people on what God is doing around the world and in our communities, beginning with Evergreen SGV’s missionaries and ministries, broadening their perspective on missions.
• To encourage people to have a burden to pray (intercede) for others near and far.
• To inform people how they can be involved in missions in their communities, nation and overseas by providing resources from EBCSGV and networking with other organizations.
• To challenge people to experience a short-term or long-term missions commitment and to show how to be equipped to pursue it.

What is awareness? According to one dictionary, the word “aware(ness)” is defined as “having or showing realization, perception or knowledge”.

What does it mean in the context of the lifestyle which we are trying to promote in our church body? For Christians, our goal is to know Him and to make Him known. Jesus taught us that when we love each other, all men will know that we are his disciples (John 13:34-35). By the love we demonstrate to others, they will be drawn to our Savior. This is only possible by God’s transforming power.

In January, the ACT (Awareness Core Team) was formed to ignite a movement in our church family to love God and love others as ourselves (see photo). We aim to encourage and educate people to grow further in their faith by developing a stronger burden to bring Christ to their community, nation and to the ends of the world: we exist to help you get involved. Although we are a part of Outreach Ministries, we work very closely with all other ministries including Congregational Life, Worship and Prayer. I thank the Lord for raising up these leaders to work alongside me to tackle the task which God has laid on our hearts.

Throughout the year, you will be hearing about different awareness projects as we implement them. One such 2010 events is Passion for the Nations which Evergreen SGV will host on Saturday, October 2. It’s a one-day missions conference to learn how to fulfill God’s Heart for the World. Since we are expecting about 1000 conferees, it will require many volunteers from our church body in addition to many other volunteers from other churches in LA/Orange/SD counties. We humbly ask your prayers and your participation as we seek His will for each project, growing together in glorifying His name. If you are interested in more details, contact any one of us in the outreach council and the ACT. We would love to hear your ideas and input for this huge but exciting endeavor. We look forward to ministering with you!
