It’s hard from me to comprehend that there is someone who loves my children more than I do. At my stage of life, this would also include my grandchildren. I love them all beyond what words could describe.
Yet, there is someone who loves them more than I do.
God loves our children more than we do.
How do I know this? The scriptures teach us that “…God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” John 3:16. How could any of us love someone more than this based on my understanding of how much an earthly father loves his earthly child? God’s love for us exceeds our ability to love anyone else.
Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends” John 15:13. There is no greater love than the love God has for us as demonstrated by Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf.
Someone does love our children more than we do. That Someone is God.
God’s love for our children tells us two things. First, He wants what’s best for them more than we do. And, secondly, He knows what’s best for them better than we do.
Believing that God loves our children more than we do will help us in three areas.
It will help us apply God’s truth as we raise our children. Instructions in the Bible about discipline and boundaries will come easier to apply knowing that God wants what’s best for our children.
It will help reduce our worry. There are a myriad of things about which we worry. Most of the things we worry about are the things beyond our ability to control. However, we know that God is in control and that He loves them more than we do, so our anxiety level should diminish.
It will help us accept what’s going on in our children’s lives. Things don’t always go as planned. Maybe our child isn’t as athletic as we had hoped or doesn’t have the grades necessary for medical school. We can take heart because God has a plan and His plan is always the best plan.
Isn’t it wonderful to know and embrace that there is Someone who loves our children more than we do. This fact gave me incredible peace as we raised our children.
Something to think about…
