Ephesians 1:11 says, “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will”.
All things happen according to the counsel of His will not our will. When we stop to really think about it, it’s much better that way. It’s better to have His will done than our will. The Bible says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways… For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thought.” Isaiah 55:8-9. It is always better to concede to the higher way and the higher thought.
In the Book of Acts, Paul wanted to take the gospel to Asia Minor, but God has a higher way according to the counsel of His will. He sent a vision to Paul and had him go to Macedonia.
While in Macedonia, a woman who made fine purple fabrics became the first Christian in Macedonia. Her name was Lydia.
Lydia got her purple dye from her home city, Thyatira. Thyatira is located in Asia Minor. So guess who helped carry the gospel to Asia Minor?
Paul went to Macedonia according to the counsel of His will. As a result Lydia came to Christ and the gospel came to Asia Minor through Lydia and her family.
Things got done according to the counsel of His will.
Whatever is happening in our lives, we need to pause and seek the counsel of God’s will. It can be found through His Word, through prayer or through the advice of Godly people, remembering that His way is higher than our way and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
Something to think about…
