In today’s society, the predominant cultural view is to withhold disciplining your children in the manner that is found in the Word of God. So, what does God’s Word say about the subject of chastising children.
Let me share a few passages.
Proverbs 13:24“He who spares the rod, hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines diligently.”
Proverbs 19:18 “Discipline your son while there is hope, and do not desire his death.”
Proverbs 22:15 “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline will remove it from him.”
Proverbs 23:13 “Do not hold back discipline from the child, although you beat him with the rod, he will not die.”
Proverbs 29:15 “The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.”
Hebrews 12:5-6, 9-10 “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by Him; 6for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son who He received…. 9Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? 10For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.”
The Bible is replete with passages that teach us to discipline our children. In the ensuing Thursdays to come, I will share thoughts and guidelines on how to discipline our children according to the scriptures.
In the meantime, dwell on theses scripture passages and ask you’re the following questions. Do we discipline our children? If so, how? If not, why not?
Something to think about…
