Sin and the Monkey Trap

If you ever want to trap a small monkey, here’s how to do it.

Hollow out a gourd with an opening at one end just large enough for a monkey to slide his hand into it.  Place a delectable into the gourd and stake it to the ground or tie it to a tree where monkeys frequent.

A monkey will come along, slide his hand into the gourd and grab the goody with his hand.  Now that his hand is full, he will not be able to take it out of the gourd nor will he release what he has in his hand.  He is trapped.

Sin traps us in a like manner.  We grab onto something that is sinful and we don’t let go.  The thing is, we have the power to let go.

Paul wrote in Romans 6:11, “Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”  Jesus has given us victory over sin.  We are no longer slaves to sin.

The only way sin has power over us is if we grab onto it and refuse to let go, just like the monkey and the monkey trap.

If there is some area in our life that is a haven for sin, let go and allow the victory over sin that is in Jesus take a hold in our life.

Something to think about…
