Let It Go

One of my granddaughters just celebrated her birthday with a “Frozen” party. A “Frozen” party nothing to do with the actual climate of the environment, but rather the decorations from the Disney movie of the same name.

One of the highlights of the party was a “Lip Dub” of the Oscar winning title song, “Let It Go”. Apparently, the lead character sings this song in the midst of a life changing decision to let go that which is cooped up inside of her (haven’t seen the movie yet).

Regardless of the context, the theme of the song is good advice when it comes to living our daily lives. There are so many things that we probably need to let go.

Here are some thoughts about what we may need to let go in our lives.

If you have any bitterness or anger toward someone who may have betrayed you or sinned against you in some way – Let It Go. (“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” Ephesian 4:31).

If you have an area of sin in your life to which you are clinging – Let It Go. (“…let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us”. Hebrews 12:1b).

If you have a dream or vision for your life that has you in a constant state of anxiety and stress – Let It Go. (“Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.” Psalm 42:11).

If you have a friendship that is unhealthy and toxic – Let It Go. (“The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked lead them astray.” Proverbs 12:26)

If you have a childish way that is no longer age appropriate – Let It Go. (“When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.” 1Corinthians 13:11).

What is it in your life that is holding you back? Whatever it may be, Let It Go.

There’s actually a bumper sticker that addresses this theme. It says, “Let Go, Let God”. Not a bad idea.

Something to think about …
