˝Lord, if it's You...˝

by Pastor Ron Miyake

Matthew 14:26-29 When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus.”

Are you a risk taker? Are you willing to do things out of your comfort zone? I’m not talking about being a thrill seeker or doing risky things just for the thrill of it or to get some sort of adrenaline rush.

I’m talking about taking a risk, doing things out of our comfort zone because the Lord asks us to do something. Maybe the Lord asks us to do something that we don’t feel adequate to do or we don’t feel we have enough skill, talent, gifting or ability to do. Or maybe we are not willing to ask the Lord or say “Yes” to the Lord because we are afraid of failing and looking bad in front of others.

In this passage in Matthew 14, I’ve often heard people just talk about Peter messing up again. But one thing that I admire about Peter in this passage was that he was willing. He was willing to ask the Lord, he was willing to do whatever Jesus asked him to do. Even if it was way beyond his ability to do it on his own, Peter was willing to say “Yes” to Jesus.

For our summer conference, I was encouraged to see so many people in our church family who were willing to ask the Lord, “Lord, if it’s You… calling me to be part of the Prophetic Prayer Ministry team… I’ll do it.” I was so encouraged to see people not only ask, but then say “Yes” to the Lord. Of the 40 people on the team, 22 were new people who were willing to get trained, serve, and see the Holy Spirit work in and through them at the conference.

May we be a people who are willing to ask the Lord if He wants us to do something… and to be a people who will say “Yes” as the Lord calls and leads us.
